Ik ben nog nooit in

Zeeland geweest

I like to venture on a mini-vacation to a Dutch region that I find interesting for one reason or another. The exact location is largely determined by the price of an overnight stay and whether dogs are allowed in the hotel. That almost always means that I end up in slightly less touristy places. Villages with names such as Groesbeek, Schoorldam and Maren-Kessel. Usually not the busiest of places.

I don't care much for ironic uglyness. I really like the truthfulness of those places. Unpolished and functional. And besides, those villages don't exist in a vacuum; the Dutch forests, polders and waterways around them may not always be equally beautiful, but they are fascinating.

I am not a world traveler. But I also don't think you should have seen the country where you're from before you go abroad. Through my photos, I just hope to show that the Netherlands is also a special place. In a non-ironic way.
